Catherine Borgia and her husband Craig Johl moved to Ossining in 1991 and live here with their two children, who attend Ossining public schools. “We came to Ossining because of its scenic beauty and deep spirit of community involvement that we saw in this village. We couldn’t imagine a better place to raise our children,” she said.

In her first term on the Ossining Village Board, Catherine has shown dynamic leadership that has fueled many successes in Ossining. By using her professional expertise in marketing ad constituent services, Catherine has worked to create a more open and responsive village government. She has spearheaded many efforts to champion Ossining’s economic revitalization, including most recently by organizing “Ossining’s Treasures: An Arts Festival,” an event which brought over 750 residents and visitors to Ossining’s downtown. A champion of open, green space, Catherine lead the drive to have 45-acres Ossining’s parks become protected, dedicated parkland, forever green. As part of the Comprehensive Plan Committee leadership, Catherine is actively working to create a vision for Ossining’s future by crafting a Comprehensive Plan, Ossining’s first since 1959.

Catherine has a long history of volunteer involvement in many organizations in Ossining, including leadership or committee roles in the PTA, Ossining Communities That Care, Ossining MicroFund, Girl Scouts of Ossining, Ossining School District’s Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committee, St. Augustine’s, Open Door Family Medical Center, Ossining MATTERS, Ossining Children’s Center, IFCA , Ossining Food Pantry, and the Ossining Public Library, as well as other statewide volunteer and advocacy organizations.

Through her leadership roles in many volunteer organizations, Catherine has created or managed several volunteer project that directly improve the lives of families in Westchester, include a Child Care Training Fair to increase the availability of quality child care; “Love Shouldn’t Hurt,” a symposium on teen dating violence; registration drives to enroll children and families in Child Health Plus and Family Health Plus; and a training program for child care and school personnel on Children Who Witness Domestic Violence. As a PTA leader, she coordinated statewide advocacy efforts on behalf of the children of New York State.

Catherine worked in Marketing and Public Relations for 15 years, and is currently Chief of Staff for Assemblywoman Sandy Galef. She earned a BA from Binghamton University (SUNY) and a MBA from NYU-Stern School of Business.
